Don’t outsource your thinking.

This is random but I feel compelled to talk about it.

Last week I was having a conversation with a group and a debate started. In heat of the debate, someone said "Let's ask ChatGPT" and I was shocked. The debate was about something that I thought was subjective so I was surprised that chatGPT was supposed to have the "final say'. ChatGPT that was trained on opinions/data of anyone who put theirs on the Internet. It's like asking people at a stadium if pineapples should be on pizza or not.

Two weeks ago I was writing code and was prompting Cursor to implement a feature that I didn't want to build myself. It kept getting it wrong and I kept prompting it on and off for over a week. This was a feature I knew how to build and eventually had to code myself, but I spent more time prompting and managing hallucinations than actually getting things done.

I'm sure some of you reading this have been in this situation too. Using chatGPT to answer things that it's unnecessary for or using AI tools mindlessly even when it's clearly not performing a task well (for now).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that AI is great and you should use it to get more done. But please don't outsource your thinking.
